The Training Division is responsible for ensuring that all of our employees have access to educational materials and events that support the skills necessary to provide high-quality emergency services to the citizens and visitors of the Monument Fire District.  

 

We are committed to sharing training functions with our neighboring Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement agencies to support interagency/interdisciplinary relationships and effective emergency response capabilities.

Steve Buckner

Training Lieutenant

The Training Lieutenant is responsible for organizing, conducting, and facilitating district personnel training. This position will work closely with the crews on the line and the training division to continue preparing and equipping MFD’s members with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to serve the district safely and effectively.

 

The Training Lieutenant’s responsibilities include new hire academies, assisting our administrative EMS staff, crew and battalion level training, and professional development of our officers, engineers, paramedics, and firefighters.

​

Our firefighters will be involved in consistent training and education involving fire suppression (structural, wildland, and vehicle), technical rescue, emergency medical services, apparatus and pump operations, leadership, and professional development.

Our staff of EMS providers are highly trained, compassionate, educated, and experienced. We take pride in providing patient care using the most current evidence-based guidelines. Emergency medicine is ever-changing, and we maintain industry best practices through continuous quality improvement.

 

We have built relationships with medical directors, hospitals, and local healthcare facilities to provide the best possible care to our community.

The EMS Educator works with the training division to ensure the EMS training needs for the department are met. This position is responsible for providing medical education to the crews, including CPR and continuing education training, credential management, and the EMS field instruction process for new employees. The position also includes community education programs such as community CPR and First Aid training, along with community outreach programs such as fall prevention and car seats.
